Happy Wedding Anniversary: Giuseppe (Joseph) Panettieri and Mariannina (Mary) Renda

Happy Anniversary to Giuseppe Panettieri (1898-1954) and Mariannina Renda (1915-1999). They were married (as Joseph and Mary Panettieri) on April 23, 1933, according to their Certificate and Record of Marriage from the State of New York.

Mariannina Renda & Giuseppe Panettieri. Married as Mary and Joseph Panettieri in 1933.

Their story together apparently began on Rogers Avenue in Brooklyn, New York. A two-family home, built in 1910, provided a foundation upon which the Panettieri and Renda families ultimately came together.

The timeline looks something like this:

  • 1913 - December: Mariano Renda and Rosina Giuffre were married and lived at 513 Rogers Avenue.

  • 1915 - October 11: Vincenzo Panettieri and son Giuseppe Panettieri immigrated from Stromboli, Italy, to Brooklyn. Their destination: 513 Rogers Avenue.

  • 1915 - October 22: Mariano and Rosina Renda had their first daughter, Mariannina Renda.

  • 1920 - October 24: Additional Panettieri family members immigrated from Stromboli and moved into the Rogers Avenue home.

Fast forward to 1933, and Giuseppe Panettieri (age 31) married Mariannina Renda (age 17). Here’s their marriage license:

The 1933 wedding, overseen by the Reverend Alfonso Parziale, was held at Our Lady of Peace Church in Brooklyn, New York:

Along Came Two Sons: Vincent & Mario Panettieri

Joseph and Mary had two children: Vincent John Panettieri (1935-2024) and Mario Panettieri (1946-1972).

Poke around our family tree, and you’ll learn how Joseph (Giuseppe) and his father Vincenzo Panettieri (1871-1963) immigrated from Stromboli, Italy to New York in 1915. The rest of their immediate family joined them in Brooklyn in 1920. Here’s their Panettieri immigration story.

Stay tuned for additional details about the Renda family as well. Among the questions I’m probing: Did the Panettieri and Renda families know each other in Stromboli, or did their introduction occur in Brooklyn in 1915 or thereafter?

Author Context: Giuseppe Panettieri and Mariannina Renda were my paternal grandparents. Their sons, Vincent and Mario, were my father and uncle, respectively. Mariano Renda and Rosina Giuffre were my maternal great grandparents.
